Instru's and Mech's do not get drifted for euphoric benefits of IT
It is not that I am against IT; I just want to let people know that there is something beyond IT.
Yes it is true that the salary, benefits and perks given by the IT companies are mesmerizing that makes even an NON-IT engineer to get spell bounded to become an IT professional. But guys think long term.....
Today we could see a lot of statistics and other news coming up which shows that this IT boom is going to become volatile in a few years. It is open to the fact that the job opportunities in the core field are not easily available as compared to IT jobs but with a little bit of determination will really help you get it. With regards to salary, you can’t expect an initial blast off, but with experience you can really increase your pay scale. Even some core companies give a good initial salaries, which will be pretty good choice to opt. Also the field and the technology you are opting play a vital role. So people do not value your job with the initial pay, think long term. As the oil and gas fields are increasing for meeting day to day demand there are lot of job opportunities coming up. Many core companies are opting India as their engineering centers as the resources are easily available.
With Regards,

Be my classmate in PG
For those of you
Who think that you have had enough of college..
Who are expecting the day, you will receive a 5 digit salary,
Who are anticipating to counter 'a rude cultural shock' in IT,
Who are planning to shift companies before you stepped into one....
I am working as a software engineer in an MNC who had all the dreams mentioned above. I am sure most of you are like me, sharing at least a few of my dreams.
There are a few myths that i would like to get rid of here:
1.You can make more money compared to someone who does a PG. ( People from PG enter into better grades with higher annual salaries.I have been saving money for one year and i tell you it is so insignificant to have spent an year)
2.If you have decided to be an IT professional you must start preparing for aptitude tests.( The IT industry is looking for highly competitive individuals with computer skills) ( Will add more on this soon, under the category 'What the industry wants') (http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2008/04/09/stories/2008040950650400.htm)
3.IT is the only industry where you can earn more. (With more manufacturing units being setup all over India, We(Non-IT students must be quick enough to spot our future employers) .Other sectors have started paying handsome compensations , IT has started cost cutting!!!http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2007/08/04/stories/2007080452380100.htm ( just one example)
I strongly urge you all, my young friends, to take up higher studies, if you are not caught up in any serious financial or family commitment.
With more IITs,IIMs coming in.... The chances for a getting into a quality institution is at an all time high...
Its too early to start cross checking the annual salaries with yr friends who are selected for other companies...
You must start checking the institutional rankings instead.. ( http://www.careerlauncher.com/mba/about_mba/top_b_schools_in_India.html for an example....)
So start having different dreams…Who knows we can be classmates in our PG???????????

Techie's go for Intellectual Patterns
He urged the students to turn their attention to problems such as environmental protection and global warming which were threatening the very existence of society. Even candid ideas that could be developed as a mechanism to arrest environmental pollution and thereby reduce the impact of global warming were most welcome, he said.He also called upon the students to cultivate the habit of applying for intellectual patents so that they did not fall victim to plagiarism in the highly competitive world. Two engineering students from the Southern Region had applied for patent for their innovative ideas, he said.
Commending the role played by self-engineering colleges in providing engineering education to a large number of students, Mr. Bhadri said the teaching wing of the engineering education was plagued by manpower shortage. It was a big problem faced by the self-financing colleges. It also existed in established institutions such as IITs, IIMs and other institutions. “There is a dearth(Synonym: scarcity) in availability of qualified, experience and dedicated faculty in higher education,” he said.
Former director of Technical Education S. Varadarajan present in the gathering also regretted, that only around 5 per cent of the engineering students took up research works in their respective vocation. While around 15 per cent preferred venturing into self-employment, around 65 per cent felt content with seeking placement in private companies.

Idea & Idea ++
" An idea is a profound deviation from an existing line of thought; it is the outcome of some ones creative thought"
